Advice

Advice you probably didn't ask for.

The tools that help students succeed in one class are often the same tools that help them succeed elsewhere: thoughtful study habits, sustainable routines, and a willingness to ask for help.

Advice

What helps with academic success

The things you'll need to be successful in a class are often the same things you need anywhere else too: effective study and productivity habits. The same habits do not work for everyone, but these are some of the things that work for me.

I do not have many class-specific rules to offer. What matters most is building habits you can trust and returning to them consistently.

Habits that work for me

  • Using the Pomodoro method
  • Prioritizing sleep, rest, exercise, and anything else needed to protect physical and mental health
  • Keeping a reference sheet for each class with important definitions and concepts
  • Handwriting notes during class, either on paper or on a tablet
  • Building routines that I can stick to
  • Working somewhere other than home
  • Asking for help regularly as needed

Encouragement

Trust the tools that got you here

Whatever tools you have developed in your life that have gotten you this far have prepared you, even if the time has come, or will come, when you want to exchange them for something else.
